October 3, 20214 yr I have an array of five 8 TB drives (four data drives, one parity). One (data) drive has died. I am going to replace it. I know the parity drive should be the largest in your array. That being said, can I replace my failed 8 TB drive with something bigger - possibly only being able to use the first 8 TB?

October 3, 20214 yr Community Expert Those things in your screenshots do not say there is anything wrong with the disk. In fact, the healthy SMART indicator suggests there is nothing at all wrong with the disk. Bad connections are much more common than bad disks. Probably better to get your connections fixed before even attempting parity swap, if that is indeed what you want to do. Attach diagnostics to your NEXT post in this thread.
October 3, 20214 yr Author Something is up with the system, I have been trying to offline the array for about 10 minutes now. Normally, it comes down quickly.
