Rebuilding my server need help

Featured Replies

Hello everyone

I have a HPE ProLiant DL360p server with 2.5 SAS drives

I want to upgrade to DL380p with 3.5 SAS drives.

I want to transfer all the data including appData without interrupting my docker containers, VM etc.. to the new 3.5 drives. This will include new parity drive

The existing array consists of:

1X SSD 2.5 SATA Cache drive 1TB

1X SAS 2.5 Parity

6X SAS 2.5 data drives

New array:

1X SSD 2.5 SATA Cache drive 1TB will be attached via 2.5 to 3.5 adapter/converter

1X 4TB SASA Parity

10X 4TB SASA Data drives

I appreciate if someone can guide me through doing this. Most important thing is not to lose my current VMs and container setup.

Thank You

Can you attach the old disks to the new server?

unfortunately no. These are 2.5 and the new server accommodates 3.5.

the idea was to go up on the total capacity and the 3.5 were cheaper to go with

perhaps with an external enclosure or even a usb dock, one disk at a time?

2.5 fit in 3.5 bays. Obv. not the other way around.

I'm personally running a couple SSD's in 3.5 bays without an issue.
