NAS VERY SLOW ≈ 1MB/S UPLOAD

Featured Replies

My NAS server is extremely slow at writing data... slower than it should be.  We're currently writing data to it at about .05-4MB/s.

Here's the sitch:

- We've got the Storinator 45 drives

- Everything is looking "healthy" on the unraid interface

- I don't have turbowrite set up, but even without this feature, the NAS is being way too slow

- I'm not using the cache pool either, but again this write speed is abnormal

- Using third party apps to write to the NAS (chronosync and carbon copy cloner - both up to date)

- Slow on all computers connected to the NAS

- Have checked the connections to the Network and have ruled this out as an issue

- I have 4x 16TB EXOS drives from Seagate used for storage + 2x 16TB EXOS drives used as parity drives

In the Unraid GUI interface, click on the word "Tools" in the list of items across the top.

Then click on the icon that says "Diagnostics"

Near the bottom of that page there is a button for download.

Update: As a test I tried moving some data directly into the cache pool (not using a third party backup software), which was super quick (≈70MB/s), but then as mover settings kicked in the CPU went mad, kept jumping from 5% to 100%...

What are those settings?

It is impossible to move from cache to slower array as fast as you can write to cache, and trying to move while still writing will just cause competition for those resources.

Mover is intended for idle time.

Sorry what I meant is:

1. I copied 250gb to the cache pool. This wrote at 70MB/s

2. Once this was done I used the 'Mover' to move the data from the cache pool to the array.

3. As this was moving, the CPU spiked from 5% to 100%

4. The NAS was not being used in any other way at this time

What did the 250GB (I assume you mean GB--gigabytes--  and not Gb--gigabits) of data consist of?  Was it 250GB of 1KB files  or a few 25GB BluRay .ISO file?  Unraid's file over head on HD's will be a major performance hit for large numbers of small files.   (I have a very cheap SSD cache drive and I see see write speeds of 90MB/s for Bluray ISO's directly to the cache.)

Yes I meant 250 gigbytes

The data consisted of protools sessions
