Here are my results using a new cable and port for the unraid server, it would appear network probably isn't the issue from what I can see:

unraid to xp

40MB/s

xp to disk1

3MB/s

XP to disk2

5MB/S

laptop to disk1

7MB/S

laptop to disk2

7MB/s

disk1 to laptop

7mb/S

disk2 to laptop

Why is the laptop slow in both directions?

Not quite sure, it's a mystery to me too.

still haven't ruled out possibility of faulty network card on the unRAID box...

have seen working network cards only work on static address and not on dhcp and cards that will only work on 10MB even though reporting 1000MB ...???... so there might be something or not ....

What is the network breakdown? You aren't using a Trendnet by any chance.

EDIT: nevermind.

Can you connect the PC directly to the Server? (Or the Laptop if it is Gigabit.)
