HS Server (Ubuntu) - needs little resource KodiPlex (Windows 11) Would you suggest: UNRAID cpu 0/10 + cpu 1 /11 HS Server cpu 2/12 + cpu 3/13 KodiPlex cpu 4/14 + 5/15 cpu 6/16 + 7/16 cpu 8/18 + 9/19 Is that OK? Whilst I'm testing KodiPlex (with above setup) - I don't have any other VMs running (e.g. no ubuntu) - so UNRAID should be using the first 4 cores (if my understanding is correct). December 28, 20214 yr Author Games are still choppy (like as if its max at 100% and needs to catch up); better but choppy - both halo and drift4. When I use the XBOX controller overlay which shows VRAM, GPU, CPU - they are barely going over 50%. Graphics are on low or medium, since doing the xml changes - I have not done a clean install of the driver? Have you any thoughts? December 28, 20214 yr Author On running dirt4, there is a spinning icon. I noticed that when I move the mouse - it does indeed cause the spinning icon to sort of stop and then pick up again. I think this is a good idea, but truthfully I've no idea what I am doing, I did select the GTX and HD Audio as MSI (tick box and press apply, reboot) but it didn't improve. I am at a complete loss here, I've tried selecting all to MSI, and enabling HD audio and GTX1660 to high. I did try seeing if I could change the VM BIOS from Q35-6.1 to i440fx-6.1, but I get the error: XML error: The PCI controller with index='0' must be model='pci-root' for this machine type, but model='pcie-root' was found instead I'm not sure if that will make a difference. Other things I tried are turning off the other NVIDIA things. It made no difference (maybe made it worse) I have turned back on the TU116 USB and UCSI controller. MSI is enabled on all devices with GTX and HD Audio set at HIGH Interrupt Priority. Thing is I don't know if this is related to egpu thunderbolt or not.. The vbios was from a website as the script to dump the vbios does not work. I'm stumped! Edited December 28, 20214 yr by SmokeyColes
December 29, 20214 yr Author Reinstalled a new VM using Q35 and complete clean setup, but this time with no vbios and gpu from the start (no vnc) - had the identical same issue. i440 bios crashes the VM, if I Force Stop - UNRAID crashes. If I switch off GPU first (by the egpu enclosure) - then Force Stop - the VM can be stopped. Part of me is wondering if its the egpu. Any thoughts would be appreciated... December 30, 20214 yr Author SOLVED Ok I don't know how but in case any one finds the same. It could be one of three things (I tested on original VM): 1. Changed PCIe ACS override from Multi-Function to DownStream, the IOMMU group looks slightly different. See this post for IOMMU differences for eGPUs: 2. Changed eGPU to Razor Core X from Lenova BoostStation. 3. When I removed the GPU from the eGPU enclosure, there was a very small piece of paper at the pins. I've no idea if it was causing a problem or where it came from, but I'm going to write it here- as you never know. So sorry I have no solution. DIRT4 is playing flawlessly and I'm no longer < 15fps or 0 moving the mouse. But yay!! Tbh I'm toying with the idea to swap back to the boost station. But its a hit or miss chance it will pick up the GPU. Sometimes I've found you have more chance of UNRAID picking up the GPU when you swap it between thunderbolt enclosures. That said 3 out of 4 times it would see it on Multi-Function, but it was still problematic. Strange, but you never know this post may help someone....
