Replacing drive in a single drive array and no SATA slots left

Featured Replies

Hi all,

i have a single drive array with just one share on it. I would like to change the drive to have a larger one instead. It's ok if i loose the current data on the drive (just old cctv footage).

Can i just remove the old disk from the system. install the new one. boot. Assign the new one to the existing array?

- Will it "miss" the old disk?

- Is there share automatically using the new disk?

Thanks

 Dennis

You need to do a new config (tools -> new config) to be able to assign a different device.

I am a bit confused by your query.  You have a single hard drive in the server box-- correct?   And you want to remove that drive to install a larger one?

WHY?

I would assume that you have room to install a second hard drive in addition to the one that is currently installed.  You could add that second drive to array and you would then have additional storage space available and all of the files that are on the first drive.  You would lose nothing!

That's a pool, not an array, you mentioned array disk, for pools you don't need to do a new config.

You can just power off, replace devices, when you power back on that pool will be empty, assign new device, start array, format new device.

maybe one more unrelated question that just came to my mind:

- the other pools above (data and cachepool) each have 2 drives with 2TB (8TB) each.

The pools have 2tb each - my understanding was that the second drive is a mirror - is that correct?
