April 25, 201115 yr CyberPower CP425SLG APC BACK-UPS ES 550VA These are cheapest UPS available to me. Will either work with UnRaid, and how would I configure the server to shut down automatically in the event of power loss? Thanks.
April 26, 201115 yr I don't know the Cyberpower, but the APC BACK-UPS should be fine. I'm using the APC BACK-UPS CS650. To use it with unRAID, install the apcupsd package from unMENU.
April 26, 201115 yr Here is how to install unMENU http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=Configuration_Tutorial#Install_UnMENU_for_Screen_and_eMail_Notifications You will need Clean Powerdown and apcupsd, both of which can be installed from the unMENU package manager. How many drives do you have or expect to have in your system? The UPS must be able to supply power to spin up all drives. You can go to the APC site to get an estimate of how much time you will have based on load http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=9655.msg92480#quickreply More info on configuration of apcupsd http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=11049.msg106059#quickreply btw, I'd recommend APC. Edit: A forum search has found that the cyberpower seems to be compatible with apcupsd with some minor configuration changes. Plenty of confusion on whether it provides a clean powerdown though, but maybe Rajahal will reply with his experience with the cyberpower. For apcupsd: I have a cyberpowersystems UPS, but I only had to modify these lines with the web interface to the apcupsd configuration file: UPSNAME CyberPower UPSCABLE usb UPSTYPE DEVICE http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=2505.msg28398#msg28398 http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=5357.msg49913#msg49913
April 26, 201115 yr I'm using the APC BACK-UPS ES 550VA. It works fine. Though I don't consider the "desk top" design, with all the receptacles on on top, to be ideal. APC's more expensive models with all the outlets on the back probably provide better space utilization when powering most servers and other network devices; i.e., router, switch, etc., with your equipment on a rack or shelf.
