Permissions error during file move

Featured Replies

Using Total Commander, I went to move a file from the download dir (on the cache disk) of SABnzbd. It began the move, but right near the end I got Error: Cannot write file path\file name! Please remove the write protection! File attributes display Archive as the only property selected. I tried again with Windows Explorer (Tera Copy), but got a similar error.

I disabled "Use cache disk" for this specific share, tried again, and got same result. I've cleared the cache disk of previous attempts. Meaning the cache\TV\show\file is gone. The only instance of the file on the server is here: \cache\.custom\sabnzbd\downloads\complete

What could be going on?

EDIT: Got a very similar error tonight during a transfer of 43gb. The 7th file out of 13 will not transfer without file permission errors:

I was able to move the file from \cache\.custom\sabnzbd\downloads\complete to \cache\.custom\sabnzbd\downloads\, but it can't be copied or moved from that disk.

I tried a long smart test as advised, but I could not find any info on how I would be aware the test completed.

hda is my cache disk. Everything before these lines in the syslog is mover related. S.M.A.R.T. info on hda:

What are to colored balls next to the drive in the unRAID interface? hda does not look good.

Yep, I've had that problem before, long before my use with unRAID.  The drive died within a week or so.  I -believe- I remember from my findings back then it was due to a corrupt sector or such, but the underlying problem (at least for me) was that the drive was simply about to take a dump.

I'd start pre-clearing a replacement, if you dont already have one, just incase.  Eh, nevermind, just remembered it was your cache drive, so I guess not a big urgency, other than I would try to retrieve the data asap and put it in the array - that is the files that you can, that don't sit on the (possible) corrupt sector.

It's green. Everything is green.

Are you sure you are not copying to a nearly full disk with insufficient room for the file?  If you've not set the min-free-space on the user-share properly, that cold easily happen.

Running long SMART test. Here's the capacity of the array and the user-share settings for TV:

Is this the command I want to run in Putty:

smartctl -d ata -tlong /dev/hda  >/boot/smart.txt

  • Author

I did two tests just now:

Copied the file from cache to a local disk on my workstation. No issues.

Copied the file from my local disk to the correct user share and folder on the array. No issues.

So, it appears I can no longer move files from the \cache\.custom\sabnzbd\downloads\complete location to the cache disk temp location that the mover utilizes.

Is this the command I want to run in Putty:

smartctl -d ata -tlong /dev/hda  >/boot/smart.txt

You only need "-t ata" for SATA drives. /dev/hda indicates an IDE drive. Try:

smartctl -tlong /dev/hda  >/boot/smart.txt

Get directory listings on the problem directory and a good directory for comparison. Try this:

ls -l \cache\.custom\sabnzbd\downloads\complete
ls -l \cache\.custom\sabnzbd\downloads\

And run the same two "ls -l " commands on the temp location.

Weird, I don't recall getting the email notification about your message.

Running the test now. I'll post the results later.

As Joe mentioned. What is the utilization of the target disk?

As Joe mentioned. What is the utilization of the target disk?

All disk utilization is listed in the screen shot, unless I'm misunderstanding the question.

Since this first happened, there has been another 100gb of transfers to the cache disk, and then using the mover, to the files' destination share.

Sorry to interrupt, but I have a few hdx drives, but they are definitely SATA drives (WD10EADS). Wassup with that?

Setup AHCI in BIOS.

Setup AHCI in BIOS.

Thanks.  I definitely don't recall explicitly turning this on.  So I see this is required for hot swapping?  And why without this, do SATA drives show as IDE? Do those drives then operate more slowly than the sdx drives?

Depending on the size of the file the split level may be blocking the copy.

The file I was moving was 570mb, and files since then have ranged from 175mb to 8gb.

I went ahead and tried using Midnight Commander to copy the file from mnt/cache/sab/downloads to mnt/disk7 and the same permissions error appeared.

CHMOD looked normal. Read and write by owner were selected.
