May 17, 201115 yr Nice price but I'll hold out for $100 As I'll have to get two--one for parity and data. Now these are fully supported in 5.0?
May 17, 201115 yr Nice price but I'll hold out for $100 As I'll have to get two--one for parity and data. Now these are fully supported in 5.0? No. unRAID is still limited in the fact that it uses MBR partitions. That has an upper limit of 2.2TB. you can used them with a minor hack is my understanding. You will only get 2.2 TB. I believe the support for GPT partitions (supporting 9.4 ZB) is slated for possible unraid 5.1? there are many threads covering this in the beta sections.
May 17, 201115 yr Since 2TB drives are still cheaper per gig than 3TB drives, by the time unRAID supports them they will likely be more affordable. This keeps me from buying more expensive drives now. Of course, if physical space is an issue, the 3TB drives would be a better move.
May 17, 201115 yr Thanks for clearing that up guys. In the mean time, you do squeeze out an extra 200 GB
May 17, 201115 yr The price point is getting so close right now with the 2tb vs 3tb .. and we all know once the 3tb is supported, we will start pulling 2tb drives out and putting 3tb in the same slot. you would save money in the long by just getting the 3tb.. I'll. also wait for the $100 magic number. altho $110 i might bend for.. $119 is very tempting. i could get 4 and put them in one of my windowz raid boxes, giving me 4 more 2TB drives for my unraid. and i do have a second pro licence and a 4224 in storage... soon.. very soon ~evil laugh~ im sure the 4TB drive is right behind the 3TB. Seagate managed to make the 1TB platters... 4 of those in one drive would be a 4TB drive. the price should be close to WD 3tb drives.. it will never end!
May 17, 201115 yr I doubt I'd be replacing 2TB drives with 3TB drives unless I was out of slots or the 2TB drive was failing.
May 18, 201115 yr I'm currently replacing my 1 TB drives with 2 TB ones. I have a bunch of 1.5 TB drives that will eventually yield to 3 TB disks. 2 TB -> 3TB just doesn't seem to be enough of a jump.

You state you are replacing 1TB with 2TB (net gain 1TB) but 2TB to 3TB (net gain 1TB when unRaid supports GPT) isn't enough of a jump? Unless your reason is because unRaid currently doesn't support using the full 3TB, then I get it.

Of course, from 1TB to 3TB should be a no brainer.
