Tisamon
hi, I am thinking of building an unRaid box and have a question I can’t really find an answer to, maybe its too obvious… If I overwrite/change a file will the original still be on the array until the mover moves it of the cache drive? Same question if I delete a file, will it delete the file immediately or just make a note to delete the file the next time the mover is running? Tisamon Quote Link to comment
itimpi
If a file exists then Unraid will overwrite it or delete it immediately. In the case of overwrite it is done in-situ wherever the file currently exists (cache of array). Mover is not involved in either case. Quote Link to comment
Solution trurl Posted May 29, 2022 Solution Share Posted May 29, 2022 You shouldn't think of cache as temporary storage. Cache is just the default name of a (fast) pool separate from the parity array. More than one pool can be setup, each can have multiple disks, and each can be named as you wish. Each user share has settings that control how and which pool it uses if any. New files for a share may be written to its pool and moved between pool and array depending on those settings. Files on pool are considered part of the share, so wherever a file already exists is where it will be deleted or modified. Quote Link to comment
Tisamon
Thank you for your answers, i had hoped i could use the a ssd cache drive to avoid the drawbacks of SRM Drives simply by having it do all writing to the drives when no one is trying to access stuff Quote Link to comment
