I used 6 inch cable extenders for the MB 24 pin power cable and for the upper (4 pin, if I remember correctly) MB power port-The one close to the upper edge of the MB.

Like these:

By inverted, do you mean to cable connections on the backside are on the top above the fan location?

 

Exactly. When the drive cage handles are facing down (not my personal favorite), then the screws line up better. But when you go for lining up all the screws, then the sata and power ports are way up in the case, needing extra cable reach.

 

I went for cleaner/shorter cabling, more controls of drives when pulling them out from the SS-500, and enough screws holding the SS-500 in. Dealer's choice, I'd say.
