unRaid boot on a iMac 8,1

Featured Replies

Hello dear forum,

I have a question, is it possible to boot on an iMac 8.1 or on a macOS Unraid and use it as a server. I created a USB stick with the UNRAID USB Creator and connected it to the iMac and opened the boot menu with the alt key, I see the USB medium but nothing happens when I click on it. Can someone give me a hint what I'm doing wrong. I'm pretty much a newbie in this server area.
Thanks in advance.

Try enabling UEFI boot on the flash drive by renaming the EFI- folder to EFI.

No guarantee it will work, but it may go farther.

It's been notoriously difficult to reliably boot Unraid with Apple hardware, though some times it works, agree that UEFI is more likely to work.
