fonzie
I'm about to install a cache drive on my unRaid box. So the first order of business is naturally to preclear it. My hard drive that will be used as a cache is a Western Digital Caviar Green 500GB Model: WD5000AACS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136149&cm_re=wd5000aacs-_-22-136-149-_-Product Is it Advanced Format or not? Do I need to jumper it like the EARS? I just want to make sure I preclear it correctly. Edit: Found the answer here: http://support.wdc.com/product/install.asp?wdc_lang=en&fid=wdsfCaviar_Green It is not AF so I will preclear it as a regular drive. Link to comment
dgaschk
All drives can be pre-cleared as 4K-aligned/sector 64/"-A option" with no performance penalty except EARS with jumpers. Do not add jumpers to new EARS drives and format as 4K-aligned. There is no benefit to removing jumpers and reformatting existing EARS drives or non-AF-drives. Link to comment
