Temp of drives

Featured Replies

I am running 7 drives but the temp is only showing on two.  Config is as follows:

Mobo Sata - 3 1tb WD Drives 1 1tb Hitachi Drive --- None showing temp

Promise Sata pci card - 3 1tb WD drives -- Two showing temp is software

Mobo ide - 1 320gb drive not showing temp.

Any thoughts?

Sorry for butting in. I used smartctl to find out if SMART is enabled on every drive. It seemed that several drives had SMART switched off. So I had to issue:

smartctl -a -d ata -s on /dev/sdx

for these drives (look at the devices pages to find the correct device name). After that these drives reported temperature.

That worked ..  Wonder how it gets turned off like that..

Thanks for your help..

Glad I could help. I bought 12 identical brand-new drives - nearly 50% of them didn't report temperature. After issuing that command it's stable for several weeks now.
