I have config in extra , when entering into a folder with 2-3k items, it stuck

[global]

vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr
   fruit:encoding = native
   fruit:metadata = stream
   fruit:nfs_aces = no
   fruit:zero_file_id = yes
   spotlight backend = tracker

After I disabled “enhanced MacOS “ , seems it’s getting better.

Re-enable enhanced macOS and try adding this to SMB extras-

fruit:posix_rename = yes
readdir_attr:aapl_max_access = no
readdir_attr:aapl_finder_info = no
readdir_attr:aapl_rsize = no

It’s been reported to make a big difference.

Add it in the Global section.

I tried and I didn't see improvements. I tried to open a folder with 4000 items and it's keeping loading. Thanks anyway.

There is some discussion of this problem here. You might have some luck posting in that thread.

Just to be sure, you’ve got enable SMB multichannel set to no right?

Oh, I set it to yes. I will try to set it to no tonight.

Seems the link is wrong?

It was discovered in the RC’s that a yes setting causes terrible performance with macOS.

Thanks, both. I tried to add those into extra, and items less than 2000 is better. But a folder including items over 4000 is still same, loading forever.

What happens if you just use this for your global settings-

[Global]
   fruit:metadata = stream
   fruit:posix_rename = yes
   readdir_attr:aapl_max_access = no
   readdir_attr:aapl_finder_info = no
   readdir_attr:aapl_rsize = no

That’s all I have configured for mine and it’s working great with almost 3000 items. Takes only about 3 or 4 seconds to load.

Yes, that's what's I set in global, and it takes around 15 seconds to show 2000 items.

No other global settings? It was just a shot in the dark I guess.

I quickly went through that Bug Report (I have a scan reading talent...) and there seems to be a lot of in-depth discussion on this topic.  I would suggest you spend some time going through it as this thread has been around since 2020 and over that time, some of these folks have been testing and evaluating things.  There are a lot of SMB parameters that have been tested and the results appear to be a mixed bag of successes and failures.

Agreed. Posting there would at least bring more talent to your issue.

I double tested with this setting and it works for most of my folder. But I have several folder with over 30000 items which didn't work.
