Shifter
This might be a stupid question. But I need your expert advise before we setup and use our server. Server Storage Specifications 8x HP 1.92TB 6Gbps SATA 2.5" Solid State Drive currently on RAID10 configuration by HP Smart Array P440ar 2GB FBWC Question: Should I keep the RAID10 configuration? OR "unraid" it and let UNRAID OS manage the file system? Note: I will be using the server for docker applications for a college. Thanks in advance. 😀 Quote Link to comment
Shifter
Got a reply via email. Quote Hi there, You should let Unraid manage the disks individually, note also that we don't recommend using RAID controllers with Unraid, they can use specific identifiers for the deices that can make things more complicated if you need to replace the controller or the server hardware, not give any temps or SMART info for the drives, etc. Manuel R. Should I remove the RAID controller or just configure the disk as JBOD still connected to the controller? Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
Best would be using a true HBA, like one from the recommended controllers list, but that doesn't mean you cannot use the RAID controller in JBOD mode, but you might run into issues in the future, if for example you need to replace it with a different one as mentioned. 1 Quote Link to comment

Any disadvantage in using the RAID Controller in JBOD mode? Quote Link to comment

One disadvantage of using a RAID controller is that it normally means that Unraid cannot monitor a disk's SMART attributes and thus warn you about issues that are reported via SMART.
