Aegisnir
Hey there everyone. Was hoping to get some help with an issue. I searched similar topics but didn't find a match for my exact problem. I have a Broadcom 9400-16i HBA card and all my SATA drives show correct SMART data. I was previously using an older chassis but my new one has SAS hotswap bays so I figured my next HDD and all the ones that follow should be SAS for the increased performance. This new SAS drive is currently my parity drive and I have already successfully synced and the array is protected. But I just noticed I have some "unique" SMART attributes listed which don't seem to be presenting any values. This is a NEW drive and not refurbished or used.. Bought direct from Amazon(shipped and sold by Amazon, not a 3rd-party with a valid warranty which I confirmed). I am also missing the regular SMART attributes that I get on my SATA drives such as sector errors and such. Is this normal for a SAS drive or is something wrong? Is it my HBA card? i am at a bit of a loss here. smatctl for both sdg(SAS) and sdi(SATA): root@NeoNexusUR:~# smartctl -a /dev/sdg smartctl 7.3 2022-02-28 r5338 [x86_64-linux-5.19.17-Unraid] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-22, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org === START OF INFORMATION SECTION === Vendor: SEAGATE Product: ST18000NM005J Revision: ET01 Compliance: SPC-5 User Capacity: 18,000,207,937,536 bytes [18.0 TB] Logical block size: 512 bytes Physical block size: 4096 bytes LU is fully provisioned Rotation Rate: 7200 rpm Form Factor: 3.5 inches Logical Unit id: 0x5000c500d8a0c7eb Serial number: ZR54FGM00000C221DJVX Device type: disk Transport protocol: SAS (SPL-4) Local Time is: Wed Nov 30 10:21:16 2022 EST SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability. JorgeB
That is the normal output for a SAS drive, it's very different than SMART for ATA devices. Quote Link to comment

Sorry. Forgive my ignorance but Is it normal not to have any values like that?(Value, Worst, Threshold, Etc.) And how would I know if there is a pending sector or some other type of error? Keep an eye on 40 minutes ago, Aegisnir said: Elements in grown defect list: 0 and total uncorrected errors, you can also run long SMART tests. 1 Quote Link to comment
