Stanui
Hello all, Im was hoping to get some help diagnosing very slow (10-25MB/s) data rebuild speeds on my system after I replaced a drive that failed last week. In the disk logs I see I have the following errors on couple of my drives. " Nov 30 06:47:20 Tower kernel: ata4.00: failed to read SCR 1 (Emask=0x40) Nov 30 06:47:20 Tower kernel: ata4.01: failed to read SCR 1 (Emask=0x40) Nov 30 06:47:20 Tower kernel: ata4.02: failed to read SCR 1 (Emask=0x40) Nov 30 06:47:20 Tower kernel: ata4.02: failed to read SCR 0 (Emask=0x40) Nov 30 06:47:20 Tower kernel: ata4.02: exception Emask 0x100 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen Nov 30 06:47:20 Tower kernel: ata4.02: failed command: READ DMA EXT Nov 30 06:47:20 Tower kernel: ata4.02: cmd 25/00:08:70:8e:01/00:04:28:01:00/e0 tag 5 dma 528384 in Nov 30 06:47:20 Tower kernel: ata4.02: status: { DRDY } Nov 30 06:47:22 Tower kernel: ata4.15: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Nov 30 06:47:22 Tower kernel: ata4.00: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Nov 30 06:47:22 Tower kernel: ata4.01: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Nov 30 06:47:22 Tower kernel: ata4.02: hard resetting link Nov 30 06:47:29 Tower kernel: ata4.02: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Nov 30 06:47:29 Tower kernel: ata4.00: configured for UDMA/133 Nov 30 06:47:29 Tower kernel: ata4.01: configured for UDMA/133 Nov 30 06:47:29 Tower kernel: ata4.02: configured for UDMA/33 Nov 30 06:47:29 Tower kernel: ata4: EH complete Nov 30 08:37:24 Tower kernel: ata4.00: failed to read SCR 1 (Emask=0x40) Nov 30 08:37:24 Tower kernel: ata4.01: failed to read SCR 1 (Emask=0x40) Nov 30 08:37:24 Tower kernel: ata4.02: failed to read SCR 1 (Emask=0x40) Nov 30 08:37:24 Tower kernel: ata4.02: exception Emask 0x100 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 frozen Nov 30 08:37:24 Tower kernel: ata4.02: failed command: READ DMA EXT Nov 30 08:37:24 Tower kernel: ata4.02: cmd 25/00:40:08:a0:ef/00:05:38:01:00/e0 tag 7 dma 688128 in Nov 30 08:37:24 Tower kernel: ata4.02: status: { DRDY } Nov 30 08:37:26 Tower kernel: ata4.15: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Nov 30 08:37:26 Tower kernel: ata4.00: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Nov 30 08:37:27 Tower kernel: ata4.01: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Nov 30 08:37:27 Tower kernel: ata4.02: hard resetting link Nov 30 08:37:36 Tower kernel: ata4.02: SATA link up 1.5 Gbps (SStatus 113 SControl 310) Nov 30 08:37:36 Tower kernel: ata4.00: configured for UDMA/133 Nov 30 08:37:36 Tower kernel: ata4.01: configured for UDMA/133 Nov 30 08:37:36 Tower kernel: ata4.02: configured for UDMA/33 Nov 30 08:37:36 Tower kernel: ata4: EH complete " I have some new SATA cables and a new SAS/SATA PCIE card coming hopefully this weekend as that was the only thing I have not tried replacing from my SATA PCIE expansion card. Any suggestions or Ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! tower-diagnostics-20221130-1659.zip Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
The Marvell controller has or is connected to a SATA port multiplier, those should be avoid, Marvell controllers by itself should also be avoided. Quote Link to comment
Stanui
Thanks for the reply, I had taken a Marvell 9215 SATA expander from a previous system when building my unraid server and haven’t noticed issues until rebuilding the array… will swapping to an LSI LSI00301 SAS/sata card be the solution? Or would you recommend another part? thank you Quote Link to comment
