Upgrading CPU from AMD 5600X to AMD 5600G. Can just I replace the CPU?

Featured Replies

The only difference is that new 5600G has graphics onboard the CPU; everything else is the same between the CPUs. No other hardware\software is being changed or upgraded.

Is there anything I need to know in advance or documentation I should read before changing the CPU?

The objective is to configure unraid to display video using onboard video on the back of motherboard. Currently I have an NVIDIA GTX 1060 card install and everything works as expect. By using the onboard video for unraid, it will free up the NVIDIA card to be used by a VM.

Nope. UnRAID does not care about the CPU other than knowing what it is and how to use it. Nothing needs to be changed in advance of the CPU swap. Same with a motherboard and RAM swap.

There are others using the 5600G with UnRAID. I have one in a desktop machine. Great CPU.

I believe 5600X supports PCIE ver 4, the 5600G supports PCIE ver 3. It is also my understanding both support ECC memory.
