dazagrt
If I use a new HDD and destroy the partition before introducting it into the Unraid build and partition it inside of Unraid, does that get me around this Pre-Clear necessity? Quote Link to comment
Solution JorgeB Posted December 20, 2022 Solution Share Posted December 20, 2022 Nope, but the disk is cleared on the background, array is still available. Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
It's needed because Unraid needs to make sure the disk is all zeroes or parity would be invalid, just being blank/no partition does not guarantee that, and if fact it won't be all zeros if the disk was ever used before. dazagrt
I understand the concept behind it, it’s just very alien for anyone coming from a Linux md-raid or ZFS background. Quote Link to comment
