Did I just fry a motherboard?

Featured Replies

I knew I had to change my server from static IP to dynamic before I replaced my router but I forgot. I started to watch a movie last night and - no files. Knowing the problem was probably the IP address I went to shut down the server but instead of pulling the plug on the UPS and letting the machine initiate a proper shutdown I stupidly shut off the UPS which abruptly stopped the server. Now I can't get any video output from the server. I can't even get the bios to display.

Things I have tried:

Connected a monitor via VGA.

Connected a 2nd monitor via VGA (just in case the 1st one was bad).

Connected to a TV via HDMI.

Removed unRAID USB stick from machine and tried HDMI again.

Machine powers on and all lights work (power, HDD bays, SAS controller card, & ethernet port on MB). Machine shuts down with a long press of power button, reset button does not work.

ANy insights would be helpful, thanks

A proper shutdown would have been from the webUI.

Can you get to the BIOS?

Can you get to the BIOS?

I have a UPS that shuts down the server 3 minutes after it goes on battery. I can not get to bios through VGA or HDMI.

Okay so on the 10th (or more) try it finally booted up and here’s where I’m at. That IPv4 adx is the original static IP. How can I change that to static from here?

Get the diagnostics file first and shut the server down with the following commands typed on the keyboard.  After each command, type an <ENTER>  keystroke.

diagnostics

powerdown

Now pull the boot drive after the server shuts down.  The Diagnostics file will be in the  /logs    folder.  Upload it in a new post in case it is needed.   Make a full backup of that Flash Drive right NOW!!!!!  (That is your insurance policy!)

Open the    network.cfg     file in the    /config   folder with a straight text editor  (Like Notepad).  (Ideally, you want a Linux, MacOS, Windows aware editor...)   Find the following line:

USE_DHCP[0]="no"

Change the    no   to    yes    Now save the file.    Do NOT enter or make any other changes unless you are using that Linux, MacOS, Windows aware editor.   (I use EditPad Lite for all my text file editing as it is Linux, MacOS, Windows aware...)

It’s sorted, from here I got into “unRaid OS GUI mode” and clicked on network settings.

So do I and I think everyone should have UPS on their server. Unplugging UPS still isn't the right way to shutdown.

If you want to make it use default DHCP, just rename or delete config/network.cfg on flash drive.
