February 1, 20233 yr Community Expert Upgrade should be pretty straight forward, but make a backup of current flash drive before doing it.
February 15, 20233 yr Author Well i have upgraded to 6.11.5 now Things i did to gain smooth transition from 6.9.2 - not saying this is the only way to the upgrade. I'm a general user not a linux pro at all, well it could be said is NFI what I'm doing, but I read a few posts from all over & stich it together. Well here i go. 1. run in TOOLS update assistant to check for any possible issues. list of issues will be reported. 2. back up all appdata & config. 3. shutdown server & make copy/backup of USB. 4. Put USB back in server, restart & shutdown all VM & dockers. 5. In TOOLS start OS update. 6. once update is finished UNraid will do some checks & report any issues. 7. Reboot & whala your done. Well that how it worked for me. seamless. GOOD LUCK TO ALL. It would be nice for links to a best practice for noobs like myself on how to transition from older versions to the new without bricking your server & killing all your VM/dockers.
February 15, 20233 yr Community Expert You should already be backing up appdata and flash drive. CA Backup plugin will backup appdata, My Servers plugin will backup flash drive to Unraid clould. You can also download a zipped backup of flash at Main - Boot Device - Flash - Flash Backup. Good idea to get a new flash backup and have it handy when upgrading. Other than that, upgrade usually goes smoothly for most, and any issues can be worked through. You can always go back to the previous version. Upgrade doesn't do anything except replace the archives on flash with the new version. These archives are unpacked fresh from flash into RAM at each boot, and the OS runs completely in RAM. Think of it as firmware. Your configuration is in the config folder of flash, and that is all you need to get going again on a new install of whichever version. None of the OS is stored on your data drives, and upgrade doesn't do anything to your data.
