February 20, 20233 yr At the moment my main array is done through the pcie HBA connector but it would be possible to add more sata disks or pcie disks using ssd now that they are coming down in price. Is adding a second array on the roadmap or will that never happen in unraid?

You can already add extra arrays as btrfs pools, with ZFS pools coming shortly as an alternative in the 6.12 release. Multiple arrays of the Unraid main array style is still a roadmap item but no ETA is even hinted at so far as to when that might be svailable.
February 20, 20233 yr Author Adding one more array would be a great addition because would allow for different controller on the same Pc to manage the drives. After 1 or 2 arrays is not realy feasible. The cache is useflul but having a few more arrays would be even more useful. I like unraid in how the data sits on the disks compared to zfs.
February 20, 20233 yr Community Expert You don't need multiple arrays to use multiple controllers. That's the whole point of unraid, you can mix everything. Edited February 20, 20233 yr by Kilrah

Yes, but when you have two sets of different HDDs, two arrays would benefit the speed of each array. For example: SET 1 - 4 HDDs of old drives @ 150 MB/s - 1 Parity, 3 Data - For Surveilance System (Drives allways spinning 24x7x365) SET 1 - 5 HDDs of Newest drives @ 280 MB/s - 1 Parity, 4 Data - For General Data (Only spins whenever needed) I think in this scenario, two arrays would be a great value.

August 11, 20241 yr Another use-case for another array, is to add an ciphered array, along with unciphered fast array. If I understand well, cipher cannot be on the share level ?
