Disabled Parity Disk

Syslog is spammed with SSH related text, so cannot see the parity errors, but SMART looks OK, so replace SATA cable and re-sync.

My guess is the CRC errors but I would like some confirmation.

CRC errors never disable a drive by themselves - it takes a write failure to do that.    They most frequently indicate cabling issues (either SATA or Power) and that could lead to a write failure.

Thanks guys.

Yes I saw the ssh issue, need to fix that.

I had some issues with the tower a while back, took it out and reset all the cables. It fixed the startup issues but might have introduced this issue. I will repeat the process and try again. I has all worked fine for years. I know, I know, time for an upgrade / rebuild.

Hi,

I have reset all the cables and restarted.

then stopped the array - removed the parity disk from the configuration

started array - no parity but all good

stopped array - added parity disk back to the array

started array and the disk got disabled again.

there are some write errors in the logs.

I have a spare disk, maybe it is time to swap them over?

Could you please have a look at the diagnostics again? (the SSH errors are gone)

Still looks like a power/connection problem, replace the cables and if the same try with a different disk.
