Building a New Array

Current setup has 3 TB hard drives but I have bought several 8 tb hdds that I want to replace the 3tbs with.  Question is am I better off to just find a way to transfer all my content off of the current system and just blow out the array and put a new one in, or these days with the ZFS thing should I just avoid having the traditional array at all?  Just curious.  I am running on basically the same setup that I built like 3 years ago just ready for an update looking for what will give me the best long term results.

So with the new version its kind of an either or sort of scenario right like you can build a zfs array and you can also build the old unraid one?  so lets pretend Ihad the ability to hook enough of these drives up I could theoretically just build the zfs array and copy stuff from the old one to it and then just tear out the old one?
