  1. So with the new version its kind of an either or sort of scenario right like you can build a zfs array and you can also build the old unraid one? so lets pretend Ihad the ability to hook enough of these drives up I could theoretically just build the zfs array and copy stuff from the old one to it and then just tear out the old one?
  2. Is the performance uplift of ZFS just worth it? The one big issue I have always had with unraid was how slow it is to copy files to/from so I guess for the boost in performance I am probably willing to be a little more restricted
  3. Current setup has 3 TB hard drives but I have bought several 8 tb hdds that I want to replace the 3tbs with. Question is am I better off to just find a way to transfer all my content off of the current system and just blow out the array and put a new one in, or these days with the ZFS thing should I just avoid having the traditional array at all? Just curious. I am running on basically the same setup that I built like 3 years ago just ready for an update looking for what will give me the best long term results.
  4. I found that using something like teracopy worked better than native windows file copy. It forks it and uses multiple threads/streams to move data, but yep on gig networks it takes ages that is why I am upgading mine to 10 gig
  5. I have been putting 10 gig networking into my servers at home recently and I would like to change all the stuff that is using the old 1 gig to the new 10 gig. Anyone have any documentation or advice on doing this?
  6. So I plan on moving my drives "as is" from one server to another more powerful one that I already have built. Is it going to be as simple as drop all the drives in the new box and move the USB stick and rock and roll? Or should I just build the new one on a second install and migrate data a drive or two at a time keeping in mind that I have a few spare drives I could use for this??? I hate to buy unraid twice though...
  7. What If I want to just kill all of it, just do that then redo the preclear on the disks I have? A lot of my stuff got very disorganzied and id like to just wipe it and start from scratch. I do have all the data on another system to restore it to the unraid server to
  8. I may also consider moving it to a different computer altogether or should I just buy a new key and start over that way?
  9. So I have kinda been messing with things and I have kinda screwed a few things up and I have installed and removed WAY too many dockers and my system is kind of a mess. I would like to basically 0 it out and nuke the whole thing and start over. Is this possible and what is the best way to do it?
  10. So my cache drive is a 500 gig nvme that I have and I tried to add a sata ssd to my cache pool but its only showing me 500 gig still? should it not be 1 tb?
  11. This is good to know as I might move my RX 5700 into my server after I upgrade to something 30 series whenever I can. The 3060 might be my sweet spot.
  12. also as i understand it AMD cards generally are a little buggy with qemu and this stuff generally works better with Nvidia cards Maybe you should look at ditching the 550 and put something like a quadro in instead
  13. First of all I hate you for getting your hands on a video card like that second of all I am wondering if since its as new as it is that there are some drivers or kernel modules that simply don't exist yet that will make that difficult to use.
  14. I would suggest the intel 10100 then you don't need the gpu for anything you can just transcode with the igpu and quick sync. I put one on an asrock steel legend b460 board and it works great
  15. AH gotcha. All my Drives are connected to 9211 LSI HBAs with forward cables. I only use the onboard sata for the DVD drive i have in the server.
  16. Can it be set up to notify via sms?
  17. No not by email but I am at the dashboard for unraid all the time and I see them there
  18. I just bought a USB card that had an internal type connector to put my thumb drive inside my case. Keep my kid from grabbing it and none of my unraid stuff got jacked up
  19. What do you mean by be careful with connections?
  20. I use the preclear disks plugin to test drives before I put them in. Is there more than that I should do?
  21. Does High Water just fill in the way I am seeing where it fills a drive up to half then moves on to the next? I guess overall it doesn't really matter I mean eventually it will shake out i guess.
  22. So as I have added disks to the array they just sit with nothing on them. Is there a way to get unraid to move files around and keep the disks more or less equally full or do you just fill one to 50% then go to the next one?
  23. Just how necessary is 2 parity drives? I am using 2 but is that just overboard?
  24. To get quick sync to work for me to use with Plex I had to update to 6.9 beta 30 and then it worked. But i was on 10th gen so IDK if 8th gen will act the same or not.
