Can't do anything, time for new USB?

I'ts been like 2 months now and I really kinda threw my hands up in the air.  Initially had a HD error, ran SMART and found no errors.  Ran diagnostics and it hung. Ran diagnostics from console and the system freezes.  I can't really do anything before my server loses connection (or at least acts like it).  I can't access shares.

Obviously I could be looking at hardware problems as well, but assuming my only other option is to drop a new USB in.

Would love to use Unraid connect to back my stuff up but going to the apps page keeps hanging as well.

Edit - After 5+ minutes the apps page loaded, gonna make an attempt to install before I try another USB

Patience young Padawan 😁

The symptoms you describe could also a failing internet connection (or a real slow one). The Apps page scans for updates, this can take a long time depending on your connection. Often there are also DNS problems leading to such (timeouts and retries) slowdowns.

In this cases UNRAID is not the culprit but the victim.

So before you overact with your USB stick (which is not even used very much after a successful boot, so it is very unlikly that it will produce slowdowns), make sure to check your network settings and test.

One favorite mistake for instance is to install a PiHole Docker and try to use it for UNRAID. THIS DOES NOT WORK!

And there are many more traps you can fall in.

Hmm, with how it is acting that would make sense.  Everything worked smooth on this for 12+ months and I haven't changed anything on my network, or experienced any other troubles on any other machine.

Anywho, I can't get into my settings

If the Flash drive fails, UNRAID usually gives an error message in the gui ("corrupted flash" or something alike).

Try to ssh into the box and try to view "/boot/config".

If this works, try to clean up the cache in your browser and retry the gui.

(or try to login into the console and check /boot/config from there)

It is worth pointing out (in case you missed it) that you can easily make a local backup at any time by clicking on the Boot device on the Main tab and selecting the backup option.  The appdata backup plugin also has an option to make a local copy of the flash drive any time it runs.

Legit couldn't figure this out lol.  I do have an old network setting that I don't like, that being said I changed all of my SMB shares from private to secure, and disabled a possibly faulty drive and it looks like we're back up.

 - Edit - After clearing up the other stuff I was able to update the network settings as well.

Would the system hang if it was trying to mount an unassigned device?  Seems weird that this was a small issue.  Also not sure how/why my SMB settings would change, been rocking the same Win 11 install for a long time now.
