November 28, 20232 yr Hello all, I have a Home Assistant VM running on my Unraid server and I'm trying to utilize the built-in Bluetooth device that is on the motherboard, which is an Intel AX200 wifi/bluetooth integrated device. I see the bluetooth listed when I configure the VM (screenshot attached). However, when I select it (either just select or both select and optional) and enable it in the VM and then boot into the VM, Home Assistant will say that there is no Bluetooth device to use. I thought that it might have something to do with the VM itself, so I tried it with a Windows 10 VM, did the same steps by selecting the device when configuring the Windows VM, and the outcome was the same. Windows 10 VM doesn't detect the bluetooth device at all. Searching around online led me to someone suggesting to use the USB Manager plugin, and so I tried that. Interestingly enough, with the USB Manager plugin, I was now able to connect the Bluetooth device to a running VM, and sure enough Home Assistant now sees the Bluetooth device. However, it was unable to fully initialize it, after several minutes attempting to do so, the bluetooth device fails to load, and it now disappears from Unraid. It even stalls Unraid to the point where I have to do a dirty shutdown (resulting in parity check 😢). Before it crashed, I managed to check the log, and I noticed a bunch of "hci0 intel version event size mismatch" notifications as the VM tries to connect with the bluetooth device. I unfortunately didn't create a diagnostic log while I had USB Manager installed. Seeing how Unraid crashed due to USB Manager forcing the bluetooth device to connect with the VM, I got scared and removed it immediately. However, I've included a diagnostic log below of my current unraid setup. magi-unraid-diagnostics-20231128-1615.zip Any idea what is going on? Why would USB Manager be able to make the Bluetooth device work with the VM, yet selecting the device in the VM's configuration doesn't do anything? Am I doing something wrong?
November 28, 20232 yr You probably need to bind both the WiFi and BT portions of that card to vfio and pass the whole device.

But does not seem to have firmware, not sure if there is a way to add BT firmware to HA? But seems to be working via both VM Template and USB_Manager.
November 30, 20232 yr Author Hi Simon, Thank you for your help and testing this on your end. Despite all I try, it doesn't seem to work at all. Fortunately, I had ordered a BT USB adapter from a list of BT adapters that are confirmed to function seamlessly with HA, and it got delivered early. I plugged it into the server, shutdown the VM, edit it and immediately see it in the USB devices list. I selected it, boot up the VM, and lo behold, the BT adapter is instantly detected by HA, and once I install it, it picks up all the BT devices I needed to connect to. I guess the issue to begin with is most likely just compatibility issue. This is the BT adapter if anyone ever comes across this thread. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BCU4TZE?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details Just FYI, I suggest using a USB extender cable to plug the adapter to the PC, since this dramatically increases the range of the BT adapter and catch more devices around it, rather than plugging it directly into the PC, which might encounter some interference.
