poweroff vs. powerdown

Featured Replies

Hi folks, Sometimes I have to shut down the Unraid Server remotely, without access to the interface. I've been reading posts supporting "poweroff" and "powerdown" commands. When I used "Powerdown" , the server came up with the parity check, which is very annoying.

Thus, in short, for version 6.12.4, which is the best command or bash script to clean shutdown the Unraid server, without came up with parity check.

Thanks in advance!

They should have the same result, if the shutdown was unclean there was likely something causing it, when that happens Unraid will save the diags in the flash drive /logs folder.

Thanks @JorgeB!

There is an easy way to access this file? Through the interface? Should I post it here?

@EDalcin, get times on stopping the array on the Main tab and add 25% to it.   Then look at the setting on the   SETTINGS     >>>   Disk Settings  and set the marked parameter in the screenshot below to that calculated value:

Where exactly is this? I couldn't find it.

I have "90" at "Shutdown time-out:". Should I have more?

Thanks in advance!

It depends, the diags after an unclean shutdown will show, but you can safely set it to 150secs, a higher value it's often needed.

On the MAIN tab of the GUI as shown in the following screenshot:

You do the timing manually with a stopwatch (or its equivalent).  Great accuracy is not required as the time may vary several seconds from measurement to measurement.  You are after a good approximation of the time required.  Remember if the array can not be stopped within that time setting on the Disk Setting tab, Unraid will force an unclean shutdown!  As I understand it, Unraid will do a clean shutdown as soon as it has detected that the array has been stopped so having a shutdown time that is on the high side has no real penalty if things are working correctly. (The sole exception being if your UPS runs out of battery power as a result of waiting...)

Great explanation @Frank1940 ! That makes perfect sense now. I'll hit "Stop" and do the timing manually. Then, I'll set the "Shutdown time-out:" accordingly. Thanks!
