hockeyrcks9901
Hey all, Just starting to put together a build list. It's pretty much right out of Raj's Prototype builds. I currently have a HTPC and I'm running out of HDD space. I will basically just be serving up Blu-ray rips with this server. I can't think of anything else I'll need it to do at the moment. Right now I'm getting close to 3TB of Blu-rays and I'll be adding two more 2TB drives when I move to the server, one of these will serve as a parity drive. Now, for the server specs: Case: Antec 900 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021 - nice sale on newegg right now. MOBO: BIOSTAR A880G+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138283 - on sale right now and seems to come recommended. I have no issues switching this up at all. Please give recommendations if there are better boards. PSU: Corsair CX500 V2 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139027 - also on sale on newegg. CPU: AMD Sempron 145 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103888 RAM: G.SKILL Value 4GB DDR3-1333 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231423 - just a cheap 4GB stick. HDD: HITACHI Deskstar 5K3000 2TB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145475 - another newegg sale item. Please let me know what you think of this build. Thanks! joshpond
Looks good to me, just check with the motherboards website that the ram is compatible. Also how many drives do you plan on going with in future, just make sure your psu will handle the upgrades. Josh Quote Link to comment
hockeyrcks9901
Not sure how many drives. It will be some time before I max out the PSU though...by that time it wouldn't be an issue to change the PSU. Quote Link to comment
joshpond
Then it seems fine. Check the compatability of the RAM with the motherboard but otherwise it all looks good. I don't know much about the case but the antec ones do seem popular. Josh Quote Link to comment
Rajahal
The Biostar motherboard maxes out at 12 drives, which sounds like it will be plenty for you. If you don't plan on going past 12 drives, then a Corsair 430W PSU is plenty big enough, no need for the 500W. The Antec 400W PSU that is on sale today would work as well. Other than that, your build looks great. If you need any spare drive cages for your Antec 900 case let me know, I have several. Quote Link to comment
hockeyrcks9901
Ah, yes...I didn't notice the 12 drive limit. Probably not an issue right now, but one that I would like to avoid if possible. Are there any other recommended MBs with a higher drive limit? Quote Link to comment
mbryanr
The ASRock 880GM-LE (16 drives not including (2) PCI slots) http://www.amazon.com/ASRock-Socket-Hybrid-CrossFireX-Motherboard/dp/B003L870JM or Asus M4A88T-M LE (18 drives not including the PCI slot) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131673 or Asus M4A88T-V EVO (24 drives including using the eSata port) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131668 Quote Link to comment
