Dell precision 3650 not recognizing LSI SAS9300-8e is it compatable? Not showing in bios.

Featured Replies

Card is installed and not showing up in bio / web gui. Unless there's a power cable I didn't screw up the physical install...

I'd really like to test out Unraid, heard good things ready to buy but can't get it to show the sata controller.

I've shut off everything I can think of like secure boot in the bios. Unraid loads find just doesn't see that card. It's supposed to be flashed to IT but I assume it would show in bios either way right?

Anything else I should try? I googled around but nothing helped.

Thanks in advance!

That card should definitely work with Unraid.   You are likely to get better informed feedback if you attach your system’s diagnostics zip file to your next post in this thread.   That would at least allow us to see if it is visible at the handware level.

Do you have any alternative PCIe slots you can try the card in?   Do you have another system you can try the card in to check it is not faulty?

Thanks for the response!

I'll try the card in my other PC in the morning. I'll check but I think its the only slot that will fit. Maybe not.

Not sure how to export that diagnostics file.

Main fear was if the 3650 isn't compatible. They phased out legacy boot.

It normally downloads as a zip file if done from the GUI.   If you generated it via the command line it will have been put into the ‘logs’ folder on the flash drive.

Zip file attached. Bios isn't letting me do everything I hoped for. Yep, checked advanced.

Does anyone know if the Dell Precision 3650 isn't the issue? To clarify that it's compatible. Not that my machine specifically is the problem.

9300-8e haven't power socket or need external power.

The controller is not being detected by Linux, this is not a software problem, try a different PCIe slot if possible, or try the controller in a different PC to confirm it's working.

OP here, can't figure out which email I used (weird) so I made a fresh account.

So I'm more confused now.

Still not showing up in Linux sas2flash or anything else shows no LSI.

I put another card in the slot and it showed up so the slot is good.

I put the card in a windows machine and it showed up.

Booted same machine to Linux didn't show up.

Used megaRaid to update the FW it was 8.0 (IT) changed it to 16 (IT).

Still doesn't show up in Linux.

Kind of at a loss here what to try next.

Until the controller shows up under lspci nothing you will be able to do with it, but strange that it would show in Windows on the same PC.

Honestly I don't get it. It makes zero sense to me. If I wasn't seeing it with my eyes I'd call BS.

I think I'm going to just try a completely different card.

If you've got any suggestions that would work for sure with a dell 3650 I'm all for it.

Thanks.
