Incredibly slow parity sync

Featured Replies

Hello! I'm setting up my first unraid server. I'm currently using a Beelink SEi12 mini pc and the QNAP TS-004 DAS. I'm setting up my first array and currently the Parity Sync is incredibly slow.

I didn't consider the bottleneck that USB would create but I've read for some people it's not a huge problem. Now I'm wondering if that may be the cause of the slow speeds.

Impossible to say without the diagnostics. Please attach the zip file to your next post.

My bad! Here are the diagnosticsplex-diagnostics-20240303-0822.zip Looking at my processor it also seems to be engaging a core 100% for a second and then moving to another core and doing the same thing. I haven't looked at it broken down this way before but seems like odd behavior.

Diags Info is incomplete for some reason, if it's still going slow post a screenshot of main with the disk speeds showing, use the toggle on the top right

Reattaching my diagnostics as of today in case it can provide more info. I found another post in the forums for someone with a similar issue and reseating the power cables seemed to fix it for them so I tried that. It didn't seem to have any effect.

There are no errors logged, this looks more like a USB problem to me, can you connect the disks to a SATA controller and re-test?

Well I misread my manual and it turns out the USB ports on the back of this mini pc are 2.0.

Connected to DAS to the 3.2 USB in the front and started the parity process all over. Now it’s quoting a day which seems to be expected.

Thanks for helping me isolate the root cause!

Note that USB is not recommend for array and pools, they can cause several different issues, including disks dropping out frequently, but it does work for some.
