CountZ
Hi, a while ago I converted one of my array disks (4TB) to zfs as a target for cache replication. I later converted another 8TB disk to zfs. All was running fine, but yesterday I noticed that my DVD collection (DVD backups as folders on the array) had some movies missing. I know the collection was fine after I converted the second disk to zfs, because I made mkvs from all DVD folders afterwards. Now the folders are still there, but they are empty. Not all folders on the 8TB disk are affected, but every empty folder has "root" as its owner, while the others are owned by "nobody". I have not checked every folder yet, but that is the general pattern. I have all the original discs and all DVDs as mkvs, so the data loss is not that important, but I would like to know what might have gone wrong, to prevent it in the future. Quote Link to comment

JorgeB
The empty folders are inside which share/folder? Quote Link to comment
CountZ
Sorry I forgot to mention it. It is disk2/DVD/Filme/. In there are all the movie folders, some are owned by nobody and they are fine as far as I checked them and the others are owned by root and they are empty. There are other folders below DVD and they exibit the same problem. Owned by nobody and they are fine, owned by root and all contents are gone. Quote Link to comment
JorgeB
So there are not datasets inside that folder, meaning very unlikely the issue has anything to do with zfs, all folders created on a share should be owned by nobody, never root, what did you use to copy the data? Quote Link to comment
CountZ
Hm, I remember I followed spaceinvaders tutorial to convert an array disk to zfs, on all other disks everything is owned by nobody, only the last 60 folders on disk2 are owned by root. Quote Link to comment
CountZ
Which copy method would cause the folders to be owned by root? Quote Link to comment
itimpi
Difficult to say. Could be any copy method that was not done over the network. Quote Link to comment
