Cache SSDs missing, plex docker won't start, after migration to new motherboard/processor

Featured Replies

Version 6.12.8

I migrated my server to some new hardware today, and I am having 2 issues:

  1. I have two SSDs used as two separate cache pools, that are visible in BIOS, but not recognized by unraid. Unraid expects them to be there, but they are showing up only in "Historical Devices." Both were functioning fine before today's migration.
  2. After starting the array (without the cache pools), my plex docker container will not start. I get an "Execution Error Server Error" popup. All other containers auto-started without issue.

Migrated from an MSI Pro B660  motherboard and intel i3-12100 cpu to an Asrock Z690 Extreme with an i5-13500, and threw in 3 HDDs from an old NAS. Everything else was pulled off old mobo and installed on the new one.

Check all cables (if the SSDs are SATA) and the PowerConnector too.

If the SSDs are NVMe's, check if they sit "properly" into the slot on the MB.

Read the f*@king Manual! (of the Mobo)

Most recent Motherboards are "overequipped", they contain more devices/connectors that they can handle at the same time (like "SATA5-8 only work if you do not use PCIe Slot #3" or "NVMe #3 only works if you turn off Wifi" (in BIOS)).

So be sure to read the special sections and recheck if you did not accidentally created a non working combination.

Although modern boards look very promising, the limits can drive you crazy. And Intel CPUs are always low on lanes, so it is more likely to run out of them.

Also you might need to disable Intel VMD/RAID.

So after a good night's sleep, I think I've figured this out. For some reason, the IOMMU was bound to VFIO. Rebooted after unchecking the box and all is well.

I've also figured out that changing the processor screwed up the /dev/dri for the iGPU, which is why plex wont run. I'll try to fix that later today.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions.
