GoldSpacer
I have an unraid server with a zfs array that keeps crashing and rebooting every day or so. Diagnostics attached were exported about 1 minute after the server crashed and rebooted on its own. The Fix Common Problems plugin shows: Machine Check Events detected on your server. 4u-diagnostics-20240507-1217.zip Quote Link to comment
Solution JorgeB Posted May 7 Solution Share Posted May 7 Server rebooting on its own is almost always a hardware issue, but can be caused by different components, start by running memtest, but note that memtest is only definitive if it finds errors, if you have multiple sticks you can also try with just one, if the same try with a different one, that will basically rule out bad RAM, next suspects after that would be PSU, board, CPU. GoldSpacer
Thanks for the steps. I'll do a memtest and go from there! Quote Link to comment
itimpi
The syslog in the diagnostics is the RAM version that starts afresh every time the system is booted. You should enable the syslog server (probably with the option to Mirror to Flash set) to get a syslog that survives a reboot so we can see what leads up to a crash. The mirror to flash option is the easiest to set up (and if used the file is then automatically included in any diagnostics), but if you are worried about excessive wear on the flash drive you can put your server's address into the remote server field. GoldSpacer
The memtest was able to help me track down the bad RAM stick, thanks for pointing me towards that! 1 Quote Link to comment
