After the great JorgeB solved my network configuration problem, I was left with the fact that the eth0, which is a gigabyte onboard NIC, only runs at 100mb/s. Changed cable, switch port, checked to see if there was a ethernet BIOS option (there is not ), used the "ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg off" command, all stuff I found here searching the forum. I have this nic connected to my gigabyte switch -> router -> internet. And another NIC, 2,5gbe, connected directly to my MacBook through a 2.5gbe-thunderbolt adapter. I suspect the problem is with the nic controller...
