January 13, 201214 yr Hi, i am running unraid 4.7 with no issues. Attached are 7 sataII hdd (6 for data + 1 parity). When i transfer files from my pc (attached with 1 ssd sataII) to my unraid NAS i get write speeds up to 33-35MB/s, is it normal? Can i improve those write speeds? What is maximum values i should get? How can i monitor read speeds (when i read a file from my unraid NAS)? Rgds.
January 13, 201214 yr those write speeds are pretty much normal for writing to the parity protected array. As for reads, google search for an App that can monitor that kind of stuff.
January 13, 201214 yr A cache drive will make writes faster. But data is not protected until it's moved into the array.
January 14, 201214 yr Author Sorry but i am new to linux...does the 30% Read Performance Improvement Tweak still work in version 4.7? I guess yes, but only to try increasing buffer to 2048, right? Let me know where in "unmenu" can i do this and how should i proceed. There is a script but i don´t find any guide how to proceed. Also, where can i find my "go script"? Thx. Rgds.
January 14, 201214 yr Does the 30% Read Performance Improvement Tweak still work in version 4.7? I am looking to try it with a buffer of 2048! Let me know where in unmenu can i do this and how should i proceed. Thx. Rgds. Simple answer, not likely. Better answer, the default value in unRAID is now 1024, and that is the best value lime-tech determined. It has been at that optimal value for quite a few years now, once it was proven setting the read-ahead variable helped. Even better yet. On the user-scripts page in unMENU there are four buttons. One to get the current setting for the read ahead buffering, and three others to set the read buffer to 256, 1024, and 2048 to allow you to simply click a button to experiment and determine the differences (if any) on your hardware. You don't even have to reboot. Joe L.
January 14, 201214 yr That's the best I've seen writing to the protected array. For my less sensitive data I use a cache drive (you can select which user shares utilize the cache drive automatically - if you have a paid version). The basic version you can add your own cache drive easily enough. To the cache drive I get 75MB/s.
