Best location to install sab so it stays permanent after reboot?

Featured Replies

I don't have a cache drive.  I currently have it at /usr/local/sabnzbd, after reboot, my configs are gone.  By having it installed on the array disks, there are times when the shared folder isn't up yet, I can't access my sabnzbd.  Kindly suggest.  Thanks

Install a cache drive or put on /boot, your usb srick.  Note it could quickly kill your usb stick.

Hello.

Thanks for your reply.  By installing a cache drive, you mean that I should buy the license one to be able to do that, right?

Also, if I'm using a microSD card, does it have the same # or re-writes as usb?  Or will it last for a long time?

Lastly, Is there any way to backup configuration of unraid, so when I plan to replace my usb, I don't have to do configuration all over again?

Thanks again.

any type of "flash" memory device - stick, card etc - sab will kill it perty quick - I found a old 320g IDE drive, and installed it as my cache since my MB had a single IDE port that was not used, that way I was still able to get 8 sata drives in the case etc....

Myk

To use the cache drive yes you must buy the license.

MicroSD will have about the same number of writes as usb. It just comes with the advantage if it dies you can just replace the SD card without having to get a new key, if your using the basic this doesn't apply to you(will if you upgrade though)

To backup the config you can just copy the contents of the flash to another location. I'm sure there are files on the flash you don't have to copy, but being well under a gig of space, I'd copy the whole thing and know I have a direct replacement. Just backup the contents once a week. I imagine you could write a cron to backup the configuration to a networked location. Or alternatively setup a scheduled task(if on windows) to back it up.

If using a 5b* version and the sabnzbd plugin, writing the config to the array works fine. I believe the plugin installer checks if the location is active before trying to start.

If using the add-on script(.conf) with unmenu, just add a sleep command to your go file to wait long enough for the array to become active before starting sabnzbd.

Go file is located in /boot/config/

The downside to this is sabnzbd downloading will keep your disks spinning. You can either add another disc and manually mount it(you can also do this via the Go file) or add another usb stick/sd card to hold your apps, you'd still need to manually mount it or add it to the Go file. This way when the stick dies(eventually) it won't take your entire unRAID with it.

If you did go the second usb stick route, remember to set sabnzbd to download to the array, as the flash would die very quickly being downloaded to by sab, not to mention wouldn't be big enough to hold anything, :P

You could mount a drive outside unRaid and use that as a installation point. You will have to check for the mount before starting the app though. Using a cache drive does simplify it a bit.
