Cannot access unRaid Tower via network anymore! STILL HAVING ISSUES

Featured Replies

Everything was working until today.  I switched from Comcast to ATT U-Verse.  So, I ended up turning everything off.  The only new difference was that I now have DSL fiber optics rather than cable modem.  Everything is the same, but for some reason or another I cannot access the unRaid server.  This is my set up.

PC W7 and Unraid connected to a 8 port gigabit switch.  I've got a WNDR3700 router connected to the switch.  I can access the internet on my W7 PC, but I don't believe this would matter if I want to access the Unraid server?

I'm not really sure what else to do.  I've changed the Cat5e cables as well.

I also noticed that the ethernet light where I hook up the Cat5e cable to the Unraid is orange?  It used to be green before, but I am not sure what is causing this.  I've looked at the lights at the switch and its solid green.  The same for my W7 PC.  I've power cycle everything, and so far nothing.

I can't even access the router via IP address either.

IP address scheme may have changed when you switched routers. Set unRaid to DHCP and reboot. See if that fixes things.

How do I turn off the server safely if I don't have access to unmenu?  I've got a keyboard and monitor hooked up to it, but I can't seem to find the code to shut it down.

I got tired of waiting and turned it off manually.  I removed the USB drive, hooked it up on my laptop and changed the DHCP to yes like you suggested, and now I can see my unraid Tower.  Awesome.

Now, I've got to figure out to make the new IP address static.  Thanks.

make your router have a DHCP range of xxx.xxx.xxx.100-150 and in the unraid webui tell unraid to be xxx.xxx.xxx.2

Reserve the address for the servers MAC in the DHCP server. Make the reservation perminent.

Yeah, I am trying to figure out how to do this since I've got the U-Verse router and the WNDR3700 router as well.

One of them is the DHCP server. The other needs to have DHCP service disabled.

Ok, so which one will be a DHCP server?  The U-Verse router or the WNDR3700?  All I want is for the U-Verse router to provided internet connection to the WNDR3700, and the WNDR3700 + 8 Trendnet Giga port to connect all of my devices via Cat5e cable.

Set the WNDR3700 as the DMZ host in the verse router. Then use the WNDR3700 to reserve the IP address of the server. Make sure the WNDR3700 firewall is active (should be the default).

I don't know of the AT&T router has the option. I set the pos SMC router that Comcast gave me to pass though mode. That changes it from a router to a dumb modem. AT&T might be able to do that remotely for you.

The dmz trick did not work for me. that broke all of my secure certificates and VPN.

The DMZ trick on the Uverse router does work, though you also have to disable the firewall on that connection if I remember correctly.

When I had U-verse I set my router into DMZ and had all my devices connected to my router.  The U-verse router only had the set top box plugged into it.

With my WOW router/modem I had them completely disable all router and wireless functionality on the device.

I would call your ISP tech support and tell them your devices are fighting with each other.  My DSL modem/router has been put in bridge mode (only makes the DSL connection, nothing else), then my seperate wireless router does my pppoe login/firewall/dhcp etc.....

Well, I took out the 8 port gigabit switch.  Now, I've got the two TV boxes hooked up to the RG, and I've got my PC and server hooked up to the WNDR3700 router.  I can access the internet via my PC, and I can also access my server.  I'm transferring a movie right now, and I am getting 35 mbps speeds.  However, I noticed that the ethernet light behind my server is orange rather than green, and I don't understand why.

However, I will call ATT and see if there is a way to make the ATT RG router in bridge mode only.

orange = 100mbps connection instead of 1,000mbps?

The WNDR3700 should have gigabit ports.  Ensure you're running a Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable to it.

I am.  Well, after figuring out how to make the RG from UVerse in to a bridge, I am still losing connection to my Server.  Furthermore, I am losing internet connection.  First it was wireless, but not it is wired and wireless.

I have re-routed, replaced, checked, double checked, and triple checked all of my connection.  I can get the network to work for about 2 to 3 hours, and there after it starts all over again.  I have removed the U-Verse RG completely from my wired network, and I can connect to my server without any issues.

Then, I removed the WNDR3700, and connect everything to the RG, and I can connect to my server, and have access to the internet.  However, the transfer speeds from my pc to the server is 10 mbps only.  It would not go any faster even if I have a cache drive.

It appears the U-Verse RG is not gigabit.  I've called ATT about this, and they confirmed the RG is not gigabit.  Thereafter, I try using the RG connected to a gigabit switch, and I was not able to connect to my server.  I was also unable to connect to the internet via the gigabit switch with cat5e and cat6 cables.  I tried using 3 different gigabit switch, and I got the same results.

My wife has been very upset for the past 2 days because she has been able to watch her tv shows lol.  So, she wants comcast back, and to have everything hooked up the way it was.  I was lucky, and someone cancelled their Saturday appointment.  So, I will have everything back to normal on Saturday....so I hope.

Never, never, never, never .....ever will I use U-Verse.

The worse part was when they offer to send another technician again for $130.00 charge or $50 dollars charge for Tech assistance over the phone  :o

I had U-verse and while it was a pain initially to deal with there router/modem thing I got it figured out and everything worked fine afterwards.

You can leave the router functionality enabled of the U-verse modem, I did so that there cable box could connect to it.  From there you will need the MAC address (I think that was it) of your router.  Once that is done you need to get into the U-verse router/modem and set it up so that your router is in DMZ and that the firewall is disabled.  It took me a few tries to get everything correct but once I figured it out everything was fine.  I did have to reboot my router after setting everything up as it it had to show the IP of the outside world and NOT the one the U-verse router was giving it.

I ended up with 2 DHCP servers on my network though they never really knew about each other.  So far as my router was concerned it was getting an internet connection directly to the outside world.

NOTE: I would have given you exact instructions but I not longer have U-verse.  I really only switched away from them because I was able to get faster speeds for less money with a different provider.

I have u-verse with Buffalo router. The Buffalo is set as the DMZ host in the u-verse RG, this bypasses the u-verse firewall and gives the Buffalo the public IP address.  The DMZ setting is under the firewall config in the RG. The RG still has the TV box directly connected.

Yeah, I ended up reading about the DMZ options after cancelling U-Verse.  My wife wasn't too fond of U-Verse since the USA channel wasn't present in the package that we had.  So, she wouldn't be able to watch Army Wife lol.  So, now she is using Hulu to watch Army Wife.

I'm probably going to buy a Silicondust HDHomeRun Prive box...we'll see.

The UVerse residential gateway is 100MB/s only.  (or at least the one I have in my house is that way)  All you'll egt from it is a 100MB/s connection.

AT&T  UVerse did supply a 1000Mb/s 8-port switch to connect all the set-top-boxes.  It has one connection to the gateway, one to each of 6 set-top-boxes, and one spare port.

My unRAID server/XBMC Clients are on their own LAN, and that LAN pre-dates the UVerse LAN in my house.

Well, I've got comcast back again YAY!!! Everything works.  Internet is super fast, and I can access everything on my network, with the exception that all my IP's have changed from 192.168.x.x to 172.16.x.x, which doesn't bother me any.  I just have to change the labels on my devices, but I am happy with having everything back again.

The only thing that I am very upset about is that U-Verse Techs that came to my house to installed the U-Verse damaged my Cat5e line going to my master bedroom.  So, now I am going to have to run another line.  I will call them later today, and complaint.  I know they won't replace it since I've cancelled my account already.
