January 4, 20251 yr Hi All, Nooby to UnRaid, but impressed by it simple setup in comparison to trying TrueNas a few days ago, definitely beyond my limited PC experience/knowledge. I've just installed UnRaid temporarily on my new build PC, (which is working fine), having temporarily stripped out the existing SSD/HDD's and installed 2 x 2TB HDD's that I removed from my old ReadyNas, so that I could test its functions before deciding whether to install UnRaid to use permanently as a NAS on another PC build. Q1. If I swapped out the current MOBO/CPU/RAM and replace it with the MOBO/CPU/RAM that I plan to use on the new NAS build, will it still Boot with the current (Memory Stick/Boot Device) and access the current Array, or will I need to Create a new ISO on a new Memory Stick, then rebuild the Array from scratch as per a completely new setup. Q2. If I plug in any of my other SSD/HDD's (which hold files I don't want to lose), will they automatically become part of the Array and therefore I would lose any data stored on them. Thanks for any advice Robert
January 4, 20251 yr The drives in Unraid are identified by serial number, so as long as the controllers they are attached to doesn't mangle that number, you can move all drives including the licensed USB to another system entirely and the drives will automatically show up. Unraid also won't arbitrarily add drives without you assigning them to disk slots, so no worries there either.

Any VM passthrus may have to be reconfigured. 12 minutes ago, Bobj1973 said: If I plug in any of my other SSD/HDD's (which hold files I don't want to lose), will they automatically become part of the Array and therefore I would lose any data stored on them. You must assign any new disks you want to be part of the array or pools. Unraid will want to format them if you do assign them, so you will need to get their data off first. Unassigned Devices plugin can let you read many filesystems.
