unRAID Randomly goes unresponsive

Featured Replies

Hi Team,

I've been trying to track down why my unRAID server randomly goes completely unresponsive. I unfortunately have to yank the power plug as I can't get to it via HTTP, SSH, or any docker/VMs. (haven't yet tried to plug a monitor in; JetKVM is on the way!). I have syslog server set up to output my log.

Running unRAID 7.0.0

Intel Core i3-13100

Gigabyte B760I AORUS PRO DDR4

BIOS Version F12 Dated 09/27/2024

32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3600

5x Seagate EXOS 18TB array [one drive connected via JMB582 PCIe card]

2x Crucial T500 cache pool

64GB Samsung Fit Plus USB drive

This is what has been repeating in the log.

Jan 13 06:28:04 Unraid kernel: DMAR: [DMA Write NO_PASID] Request device [04:00.0] fault addr 0x60410daf000 [fault reason 0x04] Access beyond MGAW
Jan 13 06:28:04 Unraid kernel: DMAR: DRHD: handling fault status reg 3
Jan 13 06:28:08 Unraid kernel: dmar_fault: 137 callbacks suppressed

Looking at System Devices, 04:00.0 refers to Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller I225-V (rev 03)

It's plugged in to my Ubiquiti USW Enterprise 24 PoE and negotiates at 2.5gbe.

After the above error was repeating for hours (and by the looks of it, days), I came across this repeating in the log as well, referring to eth0.

Try using a different NIC if available.

I’m having the same issue. My server is becoming unresponsive about twice per day since upgrading to 7.0. Going to try to figure out how to roll mine back a version when I get home.

  • Author

So far I've tried a different ethernet cord, thinking that the Monoprice SlimRun cat6a cable was to blame.

Overnight the server hung again. All I see in the logs prior to me yanking the power cable was two drives spinning down after a Macbook ran a Time Machine backup.  I also see these errors somewhat frequently, but I'm not sure if they're related.

Jan 16 22:20:27 Unraid kernel: x86/split lock detection: #AC: CPU 0/KVM/10979 took a split_lock trap at address: 0xfffff80608e0e1ed

My next course of action is to try disabling USB passthrough of a Sonoff zigbee dongle to a Home Assistant VM.

If unsuccessful, perhaps I'll try changing the switch port from auto-negotiate to force 1gbps FDX.

Disabling USB passthrough / moving my HomeAssistant VM off the unRAID server, over to a Raspberry Pi, has resolved the lockups, I believe.

Overnight last night I continued to get errors with the NIC. One occurred while I was watching something on Plex, which stopped playback.

So this morning I moved unRAID to a different port on my switch. And for the heck of it (likely unrelated), I moved docker over from macvlan to ipvlan.

Did this resolve the watchdog issue and becoming unresponsive? this has happened to me every day the last 4 or 5 days.  I dont have anything being passed through. Fortunately I have a KVM and can safe shutdown, but Im losing my mind doing this every day.

Funny you should ask! Just recently I had the issue resurface on the new motherboard.
