April 10, 201214 yr Hi, I have been using a Cache drive since I started using unraid a year or so ago. The cache drive was never in my array and was only used for programs such as Sabnzbd and Sickbeard. We had a power cut yesterday and my server got shut down. When I rebooted I needed a parity check in order to fix some errors which had occurred. After a reboot everything was working fine (including the cache drive) so I turned off the server. I have just turned it on and my Cache drive is no longer there. I rebooted but unfortunately no luck. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers syslog.txt
April 10, 201214 yr Author Just noticed that when I stop my array and look at the line for cache - it says "no device" and there is no option for a drive from then drop down box. Does this mean my drive has failed?
April 10, 201214 yr possibly, but we need a syslog. It could be the post went bad or the drive itself, or the SATA cable. check all those things and post a syslog.

April 10, 201214 yr Author I was just having a look at my attached syslog and there is the following line in it: Apr 9 13:04:56 Tower emhttp: WDC_WD5000AAKS-00TMA0_WD-WCAPW1433266 (sda) 488386584 That is the ID of my cache drive. Does that mean it is functional? If so how isn't it showing in my list of drives? Any help appreciated.
April 10, 201214 yr Try getting a smart report on the drive to see what might be going on. Since unRAID seems to recognize it. Once you post the smart report we can take a look at it and see if the drive is OK. I did notice that there were some transactions being replayed for that drive since the shutdown was not done cleanly.
April 10, 201214 yr Author That's odd. I was just in the middle of getting a Smart Report to post and I noticed that my Cache drive is now showing. I reboot my server 3 or 4 times today and each time it wasn't there. It looks like it appeared after my last reboot a couple of hours ago. I'll post the Smart Report anyway and perhaps someone could have a quick look for me to make sure everything is okay. Thanks smart.txt

April 11, 201214 yr Might have been or still could be a PSU problem as well. They don't particularly love power outages. It could have dropped amps and wasn't giving enough juice for the cache drive. Keep an eye on things, if there are any weird problems in the near future its something to keep in mind.
April 11, 201214 yr Author Unfortunately the drive has gone again. I have attached a new syslog - any ideas? Thanks syslog2.txt
April 11, 201214 yr Author Another reboot later and it's back again. What's the easiest way to tell if it's the drive or if it's the PSU?
April 11, 201214 yr Without getting into Ohm-Meters or anything, the easiest way to tell if a PSU is bad is to replace the PSU, atleast with a temporary known-good PSU. If the cache drive is showing good in smart reports, then swapping it out with another drive would be the only way to know if something is wrong with it, although I honestly don't think it'd be the drive. Have you checked the sata cable and power cable connections, possibly swapped out the sata cable for another one. These are things that could be the problem that would be easier and cheaper to replace than the PSU. If the sata cables are not the locking type it is possible that the cable has vibrated loose.
April 11, 201214 yr Another reboot later and it's back again. What's the easiest way to tell if it's the drive or if it's the PSU? Many long years ago, I had a drive which was slow to come up to speed and thuis the computer wouldn't boot up (it was the boot drive). My solution at the time was to have the BIOS run an extended memory test which told another twenty plus seconds to the POST test. Never had a problem with it after that. Could this be your problem?
