January 26, 20251 yr I followed the directions from "/forums.unraid.net/topic/39381-upgrading-unraid-5-to-unraid-6/" to upgrade from V5. The wget option did not work due to a "connection error" when telneting into my unraid server with putty from windows. I then copied the "unRAIDServer.plg" into the config/plugins folder on the flash drive and rebooted multiple times. My system is still rev5. The system is an E4700 64-bit Intel processor and the thumb drive is a 4GB with only the UPS plugin other than the base install of unraid. In the words of Marivn Gaye, What's goin' on? Are there updated links for within the update plugin? BTW, I m finally upgrading my unraid from v5 after 15years or so because it is becoming increasingly more difficult to connect to it from my Win10 Pro machine which is used to rip Blurays and copy over to the NFS share. January 28, 20251 yr @kimnach, I cannot help you, but I'll still bump your thread. With the V5 subforum being at the bottom, it is possible that people are simply not seeing your message. If you do not have any useful feedback in a few days, try to post in the V6+ General Support subforum.
January 30, 20251 yr To upgrade from such an old version I would recommend starting with a clean install, just copy the, you can also copy super.dat for the assignments, not sure about the shares, but probably best to reconfigure them.
January 31, 20251 yr As JorgeB said, migrating just the license key file and super.dat to a fresh install would be best to accomplish an upgrade. Also keep in mind that the file system used in V5, reiserfs, is no longer being updated, doesn't support very large disks, and is going to be removed in the not too distant future. You will need to copy your data to disks with current filesystems. Perhaps it would be better to set up a new install with fresh disks, then copy the data from the old drives using the Unassigned Devices plugin.
January 31, 20251 yr Author All, I thank you for your responses. I may set up another smaller (fewer and larger drives) system and copy files over to it, and then upgrade the current system. Certainly would have been easier with active links....

Keep in mind that your license key file on your USB stick is still valid for current versions, so what you could do is build your new system, get it running with a trial key, migrate your data, then when you are done with the old system you can use the old key and license with the new install. As long as you make good labeled copies of the USB sticks each time you make changes, we can help you accomplish pretty much any end goal configuration you desire. Technology has moved a long way since then. When you get ready to move forward, I recommend you create a new post in the main general support area, briefly outlining where you are and where you want to end up. Include the details of the hardware you are currently using and are willing to purchase for your updated setup.
