May 6, 201214 yr i have a question for you guys...i know unmanaged would be of course more plug and play no interface to control anything..but what would i want to control? what do you guys like having control over on your switches? how is this switch for the price?139$ with promo code EMCNENF73 has 5 egg average out of 130...anyone see any reason why this is not good? D-Link DGS-1024D While i have never owned one.. it looks good to me. to answer why they want managed. mostly so that they can bind ports together.. mostly for people that push lots of large files or use virtual drives on a NAS/SANS. this way they can bind 2(or more) Gigapit ports together to make a 2 (or 3,4,etc) gigabit port. another thing could be VLANs for added security and to stop network crosstalk/flooding. this is usually only on very expensive managed switches. for joeblow using unraid for media storage.... all of that is overkill and usually cant even use those features so why buy it...
