April 16, 20251 yr Worried that my disk less than a year old is already toast. Can someone help me figure out if I need to just reset something? Or maybe I should warranty the disk. tower-diagnostics-20250416-1125.zip
April 16, 20251 yr Community Expert What disk was it? You can get read errors for all sorts of reasons so getting one does not necessarily mean a drive is failing. If you want to carry out a health check then the extended SMART test is the easiest way to do this.
April 16, 20251 yr Community Expert Disabled disk3 no SMART report. Maybe a connection problem. Emulated disk3 is mounted so that's good. Check connections, both ends, SATA and power, including splitters. Then post new diagnostics so we can see if we get a SMART report for that disk.
April 16, 20251 yr Author Ok it is saying the disk is still disabled after a clean reboot and starting the array. I started an extended smart test. Will get the new diagnostics once that's done. Should I also perform a read check? I started one but it looks like it'll take a day or two.

April 16, 20251 yr Author Sounds good - the extended smart test is also taking a while. It's saying it's 15% complete.
April 16, 20251 yr Community Expert SMART for disk3 looks OK, no connection problems yet. And emulated disk3 still mounted so that's all good. Extended self-test on 20TB is going to take many hours. And read check with 20TB parity is going to take many hours. Rebuild is going to basically do the same thing as read check, except with the added benefit of actually rebuilding the disk. You could do the extended self-test later if you want. https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/storage-management/#rebuilding-a-drive-onto-itself
April 16, 20251 yr Author Ok sounds good. If it needs rebuilt anyways I may just start now since yea it will probly take 3 days or so... Thanks for looking into this with me!
