May 9, 200818 yr I post this here hoping users can suggest some other changes. The web GUI is functional but the layout is not designed with users in mind. The basic page structure is fine but the wording describing things are to short and semi cryptic. Simple buttons like refresh are zero pixels away from stop the array. Other areas like POST and GET covered already highlight the difference between a real world product and a development one. Can i suggest Limetech grabs a student off the street and plonks them in front of an unRAID box and ask them to use it. I suspect some interesting things will come to light. Please no flames Im just suggesting that to reach the market better the GUI needs a day or two or development with the range of end users in mind.
May 9, 200818 yr Agreed, having a readynas, thecus or openfiler around for a model of features and layout may be helpful to. (Yes I actually have a configuration of each LOL. I'll be selling my Thecus soon)

The basic page structure is fine but the wording describing things are to short and semi cryptic. I would describe it as terse. Simple buttons like refresh are zero pixels away from stop the array. Other areas like POST and GET covered already highlight the difference between a real world product and a development one. The POST problem with shutdown & reboot is solved in the next release. Yes - did this early on & indeed some "issues" appeared - but the plan has been to create a way to customize the screens, probably via css, but that feature is well down "Ye Olde Laundry List" per Joe L.'s recommendation - haha - just ribbing you a bit Joe Please no flames Im just suggesting that to reach the market better the GUI needs a day or two or development with the range of end users in mind. All suggestions are very much appreciated, but one or two days??
May 9, 200818 yr Yes - did this early on & indeed some "issues" appeared - but the plan has been to create a way to customize the screens, probably via css, but that feature is well down "Ye Olde Laundry List" per Joe L.'s recommendation - haha - just ribbing you a bit Joe My mistake... My initial impression of your "impliment css" was so we could change color and font style... not adding anything in functionality. I still feel that is very low in priority, although if you get an order for 100,000 units, all branded with a specific brand-name on the interface, and using their company color scheme, go for it, add the css. NASUser's suggestions are using feedback from the only "usability study" you have made so far... "us" He is not the only one who accidentally hit the stop button when they intended to refresh the display. All suggestions are very much appreciated, but one or two days?? I know it takes longer than that to write up a project plan, go through the steps of writing a requirements document, and then add a couple of " " between the two buttons. Just messing with ya in return.... ;D Joe L.
May 9, 200818 yr Author hehe didn't want to cause an upset. But realistically alot could be achieved in a couple of days. Were not talking about adding functionality were simply saying take the layout and organise it a bit better. Sure CSS et al would be brilliant but before we get there i really think even a few hours on the layout would help alot.
May 10, 200818 yr This thread has some other ideas along these lines. Pretty simple to implement and help prevent users from shooting themselves in the foot! http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=1485.0
