Does someone know what happened to SAS-5? According to this Wikipedia article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_Attached_SCSI, development has started already in 2018. Development is ongoing with number INCITS 561 according to: https://www.t10.org/members/w_sas5.htm. The last documents on the page are from December 2024. I do not have access to T10 documents and did not find any information about the progress. Does someone know better what is going on?

My guess would be that it's largely irrelevant by now. Spinners won't saturate even SAS3 anytime soon, SSDs are connected via native NVMe/PCIe over U.2/U.3, shelves use cheap fiber rather than expensive copper...

Exactly, wont catch up. Got replaced by NVMe over U.2 and U.3
