Latest Calibre Docker update

Featured Replies

Just updated Calibre. Now all the sudden, when I click on the webgui to connect to Calibre I get this:

  1. Winsock disconnected, trying to reconnect

  2. Then I get "waiting for stream" and that's it. Nothing more.

  3. Even tried to remove the calibre docker and reinstall. Problem still persist

Not sure what is up as everything has been working fine until the update.

Diagnostics and syslog attached.

Look for the support link for that container:

Hi Jorge

I had done that and it wasn't any help. I'm in the process of saving the library and DBs, so I can completely eliminate the library folder then the share and start all over. Don't know what is going on but starting over with an existing library isn't that tough to do.

Thanks

I get the same behaviour after updating the calibre container to the latest version so I strongly suspect the issue is something wrong with the container itself. I can open a console session, but not a GUI one.

Same issue here after updating to latest (8.7.0-ls345). Reverting to 8.7.0-ls344 fixed. Looks like something to do with connecting via HTTPS/Reverse Proxy which happens to be a total PITA for simple LAN use of Calibre.

From the release notes:

LinuxServer Changes:

Rebase to selkies. Breaking Change: HTTPS is now required. Either use a reverse proxy with SSL cert or direct connect to port 8181 with HTTPS.

What I ended up doing to fix this was to rename my entire calibre library folder. Then I removed the docker and image. After that I removed my ebook share. Then I changed the library folder name back to original. Using SpaceInvader One's Calibre install directions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLa5sNKDAYI I completely reinstalled. I pointed the share to the original folder with all my DBs.

Don't know why, but it worked after 3 attempts with the docker and image. Had to do a couple tweaks to get the remote access since it was so long since I've set that up, but now I'm up and running 100% again. The App Support page was useless.

Hope this helps y'all.

Hi all,

What happened to you is that the Calibre docker devs decided to change from HTTP to HTTPS and uses a different port. And the changes in doing so are NOT implemented in the Unraid template.

You have two options:

• stay on the older version (that's fairly simple, edit your app template and change the repository line to "linuxserver/calibre:8.6.0"

• install a completely new Calibre docker (it could be the same docker source, just use a new NAME for the docker) and point it to the same library. It comes with the hassle of having to configure everything in Calibre again (formats, preferences, UI, etc.)

I opted to do both methods above as I wanted to "try" the new versions while retaining the old faithful working one. I'll simply retire the "old" docker at some stage.

Two thoughts about this update:

1- the Calibre devs have been stupidly ignoring community feedback on this, and it has messed up MANY a former supporter's config. Some even ended up moving to other solutions.
2- this one is an Unraid concern: it is not the first time I see this: sometimes, docker templates change (because of new docker needs, etc.). There should be at the very least a warning that the new version requires an new template and ideally a possible "migration" of the old settings into the new template model.
