Disk8 with read errors

Featured Replies

The past few days I've been receiving alerts that my disk8 has read errors. This usually happens when mover is running. Do I need to replace this drive and how urgent is this? The drive itself is not that old compared to some of the other drives I have in my system and it's passed preclear multiple times before I added it into the array.

I've attached diagnostics as well.

The SMART information for disk8 looks OK but if you want to do a confidence check run the Extended SMART test on the drive.

More often than not read errors are due to cabling issues (either power or SATA) so check those carefully.

It's logged as a disk issue, but like mentioned you should run an extended SMART test, if it passes, swap cables/slots with a different disk and see where the issue follows.

The extended SMART test passed but some of the SMART attributes came back with additional errors and I'm seeing an alert in fix common problems about the disk8 read errors.

I've attached the latest diagnostics, hopefully it has information about the extended smart test that can help.

The test passed, so the disk should be OK for now, but there are some SMART warnings, so it may be better to replace it, now or if there are more errors in the near future.
