'appdata' missing after new cache drive

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I followed the guide on the old wiki on how to replace an old cache drive with a newer one.

I obviously must have not done something correctly as now the contents of my appdata is missing.

I had moved the shares that were on the cache to move to the array, I believe appdata was there and was set to move to the array.

However after running the Mover, I did not see the appdata folder until I formatted the new cache drive and an empty appdata was now there.

My recollection of this is a bit hazy as I am a father of 2 and had to juggle kids and this task!

I've got diagnostics file ready if needed.

Is there anything I can do to get my appdata back? I don't have a backup unfortunately. I will from now use the 'Appdata Backup' plugin to backup to the array.

Many thanks in advance

Recent versions of Unraid don't use the "cache-prefer" terminology anymore, so you probably didn't really get your appdata moved.

Running each of your containers should create each of their appdata, but they will be starting over as a new install.

You could post your diagnostics ZIP and that might give more confirmation that your appdata is really gone.

Thanks for the reply @trurl

So I'm a bit confused as to what happened then - I'm certain all shares said "Array" but I've been second guessing myself the entire time now

I've attached my diagnostics, any help is much appreciated

With the current (new?) terminology to get the share moved to the array you would need Primary Storage=Cache, Secondary `storage=Array, and mover direction as Cache->Array.

Since this happened I’ve just left it in hopes that someone has a wild solution, but in reality I was just putting off re-creating my stuff.

This morning however I noticed a docker update for one of my containers I had (I have them sent to a discord server)

I thought hang on, how is this even possible?

Lo and behold, some of my containers have shown up.

Templates are as I configured them so I’m assuming it’s just using /boot/config/plugins/dockerMan/templates-user?

Unsure why it’s only done some of them though?

Obviously /mnt/user/appdata is still empty however having the templates pre-configured will save me some time at least.

If you still have the drive you removed and haven't erased it the data will be on it.
